The boat ramps at optimists park were established in 1993. along with the two boat ramps for access to the missouri river, the park has two floating docks for temporary mooring, a fish-cleaning station and restrooms. there are two small picnic shelters with grills and a bench swing.. Eight of us planned a 3 day adventure that, due to incredible weather, turned into a 2 day event. the extra day was built in because the weather/wind can delay your progress. according to group members' past experiences, they've had days where 10 miles was pushing it. we were fortunate to paddle 28 miles the first day, and the remaining 17 the next day.. The missouri river along this stretch has no dams or locks to hinder the paddle, so there is no portaging to do. the river has many public boat ramps, often with parks, along the way. there is camping available at many of the ramps with food and fresh drinking water near most of them..
